Moe's Corner sued over customer's trip on rug

A man has filed suit against the store where he claims he slipped and fell on a rug.

Anthony Sims filed suit April 7 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Moe's Corner and Mohammad Salahuddin.

According to the complaint, Sims was walking through Moe’s Corner, a business in a gas station in Madison County, when he slipped and fell on a mat or rug in the store. Because of his fall, Sims suffered great pain and anguish, incurred medical costs, lost his normal life and lost income, according to the complaint.

Sims blames Moe’s Corner and the gas station’s owner, Salahuddin, for causing his injuries, saying they negligently failed to properly maintain the premises and keep them free of obstructions, failed to inspect the premises for obstructions, failed to ensure that the mat placed in high traffic areas was properly maintained and failed to keep the premises in a safe condition.

Sims is seeking a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just. He is being represented by David W. Dugan of East Alton.

Madison County Circuit Court case number 14-L-536.
