A woman has filed suit against the doctor who she claims caused her to sustain additional injuries during a back surgery.

Z. Marlene DeWeese filed her complaint Feb. 21 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Dr. Joseph Yazdi.

According to the complaint, the defendant performed a back surgery on DeWeese on Feb. 23, 2012. During the procedure, Yazdi removed and replaced DeWeese’s dorsal column stimulator, which is a device inserted into the back to relieve chronic pain, according to the complaint. However, during the procedure, DeWeese sustained spinal cord injuries, the suit states.

Because of the procedure, DeWeese became disabled, experienced pain and suffering, lost her normal life and incurred medical costs, the complaint says.

DeWeese is seeking a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs. She is being represented by Michael J. Meyer.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number 14-L-168.
