Car accident resulting in two fatalities leads to civil lawsuit

By Thomas Kallies | Jan 16, 2014

Angela Hutchison and multiple family members filed suit Dec. 26 on behalf of the estate of Thomas S. Hutchinson, deceased, in St. Clair County Circuit Court naming Adrian Reed, Quail Club and Cigar Inn Jazz Club Inc. as defendants.

The Hutchisons are suing over a car accident which killed Thomas Hutchison and injured other members of his family who were also in the car, the suit says.

The Hutchisons say the Quail Club and Cigar Inn both sold Reed alcoholic drinks which caused him to become intoxicated on March 1. Reed apparently then got into his car and drove on Old St. Luis Road near its intersection with West Illinois Route 15 in Belleville and caused an accident with the Hutchisons' vehicle. According to the complaint, Thomas S. Hutchison and Zachary Hutchison died in the accident.

The surviving Hutchisons are suing the defendants for the role they played in the death of their family members and for injuries they sustained in the accident.

The Hutchisons are seeking more than $50,000 in damages.

They are being represented by attorney Michael Gras.
