Wal-Mart claims customer is at fault for alleged slip and fall on dish soap

Wal-Mart is denying allegations in a woman’s lawsuit claiming she slipped on dish soap in a store aisle, injuring her shoulder and knee.

According to the complaint filed Nov. 14, Tami Snyder claims she was a customer of the Collinsville Crossing Boulevard Wal-Mart when she allegedly stepped in a pool of dish soap and fell in May 2012.

She blames Wal-Mart for failing to provide a safe shopping environment and failing to warn customers of the floor’s dangerous conditions.

Wal-Mart filed its answer on Dec. 20 denying the plaintiff's claims, specifically the allegation that the plaintiff “fell or sustained injuries or damages as the proximate result of any negligent act or omission by defendant and further denies that plaintiff was injured or damaged to the extent claimed.”

Wal-Mart also filed three affirmative defenses claiming the plaintiff’s own conduct is to blame for any alleged injuries.

Wal-Mart demanded a trial by jury.

Snyder seeks a judgment of more than $50,000.

Madison County Circuit Judge Andreas Matoesian presides over the suit.

Randall P. Steele of Glen Carbon represents Snyder.

Daniel L. Bradley and Darrell J. Flesner of DeFranco & Bradley in Fairview Heights represent Wal-Mart Stores.
