A man has filed suit against the driver who he claims rear-ended his vehicle.

Lawrence Dalton Jr. claims he was driving on the off ramp from Interstate 50/70 onto the Martin Luther King Bridge in East St. Louis on Dec. 19, 2011, when defendant Linda J. Seiler, who was driving a vehicle for defendant Falcon Transport in the same direction, struck the back of Dalton’s vehicle.

Because of the collision, Dalton suffered injuries to his neck, back, spine, head, knee, wrist and body; sustained disability and disfigurement; and suffered great pain and mental anguish, according to the complaint filed Nov. 27 in St. Clair County Circuit Court. He also lost wages, incurred medical costs and suffered from a diminished earning capacity, the suit states.

Dalton blames Seiler for causing the collision, saying she negligently drove while distracted, failed to reduce his speed to avoid a collision, drove too fast, failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to properly apply his brakes and drove in such a manner as to strike his vehicle.

In addition to Seiler, Dalton names Pioneer Transport as a defendant, saying it is liable for Seiler’s actions because it employed her at the time of the collision.

In his complaint, Dalton is seeking a judgment of more than $150,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just.

Gregory M. Tobin of Pratt and Tobin in East Alton will be representing him.
