Swansea couple sues former home owner
504 Leawood in Swansea. Lamont and Genevieve Jones of Swansea filed a three-count lawsuit Jan. 21 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Zachary and Megan Zelms, the former owners of their home, and their real estate agent Keller Williams Renaissance Centre.

Real Estate developer sues Village of Cahokia
Donald Soffer, a real estate developer who developed the Nova Plaza Shopping Center on Camp Jackson Road in Cahokia, filed a breach of contract suit Feb. 1 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against the Village of Cahokia.
Seven new asbestos cases filed in St. Clair County
Randy Gori Could St. Clair County be replacing Madison County as a magnet for asbestos lawsuits? Though the 20th Judicial Circuit does not have a so-called "asbestos docket," a well-known litigator filed seven cases there on Jan. 28.

Circuit Judge Phillip Kardis Madison County Circuit Judge Phillip Kardis has dozens of motions pending to certify lawsuits as class actions, but he has set a hearing date on only one. If history repeats, that hearing probably will not happen.

Appellate court affirms Cueto's venue ruling
A venue decision made by St. Clair County Circuit Judge Lloyd Cueto was recently affirmed by the 5th District Court of Appeals after the appellate court was ordered by the Illinois Supreme Court to reconsider an interlocutory appeal.
