Chicago GOP plans to sue CPS over planned school walk outs; Some local districts have different take on school day protests
While some local school districts have taken positions against students participating in a planned national student walkout tomorrow to protest the Parkland, Fla. shooting and push for additional gun laws, the same cannot be said for the Chicago Public School (CPS) system.
Cahokia School District 187 spends $50 million per year to teach approximately 1,846 students, and while some of its administrators are among the highest paid public sector workers in the county, a recent report card on student achievement shows dismal results.
Forty-eight area school districts would receive an extra $15.5 million this year if the Illinois House accepts Gov. Bruce Rauner's version of a school funding bill, according to an analysis by the Illinois State Board of Education.
