A woman is suing an East St. Louis business for injuries she allegedly suffered after slipping and falling on the floor.

Michelle Pickens filed a lawsuit on May 21 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Aahmes Temple 132, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, on Feb. 7, Pickens was in Aahmes Temple, at 787 N. 53rd St. in East St. Louis, when she slipped on a foreign substance that had accumulated on the floor.

Pickens claims she was injured and accuses Aahmes Temple of failing to properly manage, inspect, clean, and maintain its premises and neglecting to have safe cleaning procedures in place and provide a safe environment for patrons, the suit states.

Pickens also alleges Aahmes Temple failed to warn her and others of the hazard or place warning signs or cones in the vicinity to thwart potential accidents. According to the lawsuit, the plaintiff was made sick, sore and lame as a result of the slip and she incurred injuries to her back, neck and knees.

Pickens seeks damages in excess of $50,000, plus attorney fees and costs.

She is represented by attorneys Thomas Rich, Kristina Cooksey and Michelle Rich of Thomas Rich in Fairview Heights.
