Motorist sues another driver for alleged negligence

Car accident 38

EDWARDSVILLE — A motorist alleges another driver negligently caused a collision.

Heather L. Brown filed a complaint on March 2 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Robert J. Portell, alleging he failed to exercise ordinary care and caution while operating his vehicle on the public highways.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on July 24, 2015, she was driving her vehicle west on Route 162 at the intersection of Vadalabene Street when her vehicle collided with the defendant's vehicle.

As a result, Brown claims she suffered physical injuries, lost wages and incurred medical expenses.

The plaintiff alleges the defendant failed to keep proper and sufficient lookout, followed plaintiff's vehicle more closely than what was reasonable and prudent and failed to decrease his speed to avoid a collision.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment in an amount in excess of $50,000, plus costs, damages and all other relief the court deems just and proper.

She is represented by Hausmann-McNally of Hausmann-McNally, SC in Decatur.
