EAST ST. LOUIS — Two employees are suing the Perry County Board of Commissioners and Perry County Highway Department for alleged age discrimination and retaliation.

Leonard Heisner and Terry Rheinecker filed a complaint on Feb. 8 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois against the Perry County Board of Commissioners and Perry County Highway Department, alleging they violated the Illinois Human Rights Act and the Age Discrimination in Employment Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs claim they were deprived of individual opportunities and were subjected to unequal terms and conditions of employment based solely upon their age.

The plaintiffs allege the defendants discriminated against them based on their age and retaliated against them for filing discrimination complaints.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek awards for compensatory damages, attorney's fees and costs and for all other relief as the court deems necessary and appropriate.

They are represented by Paul J. Schafer of Winters, Brewster, Crosby and Schafer LLC in Marion.
