EDWARDSVILLE – The mother of a student is suing over injuries her daughter received when the school bus she was riding in collided with a car.

Rosalay Smith, individually and as mother and next friend of Kamille Smith, a minor, filed the suit April 26 in Madison County Circuit Court against Illinois Central School Bus LLC and AllenTaylor.

On May 15, 2015, the plaintiff's daughter was a passenger on a school bus owned by Illinois Central School Bus. The driver of the bus attempted to make a left turn from Coronado Drive onto Milton Road in Alton. At the same time, Taylor was driving northbound on Milton Road.

The plaintiff claims the two vehicles collided as a result of negligence. She accuses them of failing to keep their vehicles under proper control, failing to see their respective vehicles and failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

The injuries to the minor daughter resulting from the collision include those to her neck, back and right arm, and pain and anguish; she has sought medical care, and has spent money on medical bills and medications. The plaintiff seeks payment from both defendants for that medical care under the Family Expense Act.

The plaintiff seeks judgment in excess of $50,000 for all four counts against the defendants plus court costs. She is represented by Richard G. Reed of Reed and Bruhn PC in Belleville.
