Couple sues over alleged injuries, damages after accident in Wood River parking lot

EDWARDSVILLE – A couple is suing over both the alleged injuries caused to the wife in an automobile accident and the loss of the property owned by the husband.

Tamara D. Sleczka and Michael J. Sleczka filed the suit Feb. 8 in Madison County Circuit Court against Raquel A. Sidwell, citing negligence and other counts.

According to the complaint, on May 29, 2015, Tamara Sleczka was a passenger in a vehicle being driven by Michael Sleczka in the parking lot at 610 Wesley in Wood River. At the same time, the defendant was allegedly driving behind the plaintiffs' vehicle and collided with it.

The lawsuit states Sidwell was operating her vehicle in several negligent ways, including failing to keep proper lookout, failing to keep her vehicle under proper control, driving too fast for conditions and failing to obey a traffic control device.

The resulting collision allegedly caused Tamara Sleczka serious and permanent injuries for which she will continue to receive medical bills, pain and anguish in the past and in the future, and continued hindrance in her day-to-day activities.

Michael Sleczka's complaint against the defendant is for property damage to his vehicle enough to allegedly lose use of the vehicle. A third count against the defendant is plaintiff Michael losing consortium of his wife to the injuries allegedly caused by the defendant's negligent driving.

They both seek judgment in an amount greater than $50,000 plus court costs for each count. They are represented by Randall P. Steele of Steele Law Offices LLC in Glen Carbon.
