Injured customer blames Wal-Mart for slippery floor

BELLEVILLE – A Belleville store customer is suing Walmart, alleging negligence over a slip and fall he says caused injuries.

Eddie B. Wilson III filed a lawsuit Jan. 28 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Wal-Mart Stores Inc., alleging negligence at its store in Belleville.

According to the complaint, on April 25, 2014, Wilson was inside the defendant's garden center at 2608 Green Mount Commons Drive, Belleville, when he slipped and fell. The suit alleges Walmart allowed the floor in that area of the store to become worn and slick. Wilson claims the defendant should have been aware of the alleged condition of the floor.

The complaint states Wilson slipped and fell because of failure to properly maintain the surface of the floor, failure to put some sort of protective coat over the slippery area, failure to replace areas of the floor that had become slippery, and failure to warn the plaintiff of the hazardous condition.

As a result, the plaintiff claims he suffered extensive injuries to his head, body and limbs both internally and externally, he has spent money for necessary medical treatment, he has suffered disability and disfigurement, he has aggravated a pre-existing injury, and he has withstood pain and suffering and expects to do so into the future.

Wilson seeks more than $50,000, plus costs of the suit. He is represented by attorney Kirk A. Caponi of Williams, Caponi & Associates PC in Belleville.
