Couple alleges doctor botched surgery

BELLEVILLE – A couple is suing a doctor, alleging negligence over injuries they say the wife sustained during a medical procedure.

Carla Selsor and David Selsor filed a lawsuit on Jan. 20 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Dr. Ethan Philpot, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, Phlpot, a physician licensed in Illinois, provided medical services to Carla Selsor between Jan. 16-Nov. 21, 2014.

The suit alleges he failed to apply the knowledge and use the skill and care ordinarily used by a health care provider in treating the plaintiff, was professionally negligent in planning for the plaintiff's breast reconstruction surgery, failed to properly execute a breast reconstruction, failed to consider alternatives during the course of her treatment, and failed to realize that implants would not remedy complications associated with the surgery.

As a result, the plaintiffs allege Carla Selsor has been disfigured and scarred and has suffered injury to her body, experiences constant pain and suffering, has lost enjoyment of a normal life, expects further medical bills, and has had her earning capacity impaired.

Carla and David Selsor seek at least $50,000 each, plus court costs.

They are represented by attorney Joseph A. Bartholomew of Cook, Ysursa, Bartholomew, Brauer & Shevlin Ltd. in Belleville.
