EDWARDSVILLE – A man is suing over the alleged misdiagnosis of a pain in his left leg, citing negligence.

Deron Gatling filed the suit Jan. 25 in Madison County Circuit Court against Price Omondi, DO; Stephen Coulson, MD; and Uptown Emergency Physicians LLC, which provides emergency room doctors to various hospitals. On the date in question, the suit says, the defendants were acting as the agents of Uptown.

According to the complaint, on Jan. 31, 2014, the plaintiff arrived at Anderson Hospital with extreme left lower extremity pain. While the lawsuit alleges that the physicians performed a physical examination and ordered testing, they did not recognize that the plaintiff had compartment syndrome and rhabdomyolysis. The suit further says the defendants only treated the plaintiff with pain medication, which masked the problems.

On Feb. 1, 2014, the plaintiff went to Christian Northeast Hospital where he was correctly diagnosed, the suit says, and underwent multiple surgeries and a lengthy stay.

Because of the defendants' alleged negligence, the plaintiff has been injured and suffered loss of muscles, nerves and tissue of his left calf; has undergone surgeries that otherwise would not have been necessary; has lost the use of his left leg and left foot; and has incurred medical bills as well as his ability to work, the suit claims. He also has been forced to leave ROTC and may not be able to continue with the Army Reserves, the suit states.

Plaintiff is suing all three defendants for at least $50,000 plus court costs. He is represented by Thomas O. Falb of Williamson, Webster, Falb & Glisson of Alton.
