EDWARDSVILLE – A man is suing a Godfrey nursing home, alleging his relative died as a result of the defendant's negligent care.

Michael A. Wheeler, as special representative of Catherine M. Wheeler and special administrator of the estate of Catherine M. Wheeler, deceased, filed the suit Jan. 28 in Madison County Circuit Court against Godfrey Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center LLC, doing business as Integrity Healthcare of Godfrey; Integrity Healthcare Communities; Senior Healthcare Management, doing business as Integrity HCC Services; and Steven Blisko, manager of those operations, citing negligence under the Wrongful Death Act, Common Law Negligence, and the Nursing Home Care Act and other counts.

According to the complaint, the deceased was a resident of the defendant's long-term care facility known as Integrity Healthcare of Godfrey from Nov. 7, 2014, until Feb. 10, 2015. While she was a patient at the facility, she allegedly sustained multiple pressure ulcers, dehydration, malnutrition, weight loss, sepsis and hypoxia, all of which contributed to her death, the lawsuit states.

Had she lived, the suit says, she would have been entitled to receive damages from each of the defendants for those injuries.

Instead, the suit continues, she sustained personal and pecuniary injuries, including expenses for related medical care. Her estate was also diminished by the virtue of the expenses, including funeral, that were incurred, the suit claims.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against all the defendants of at least $50,000 each plus attorney fees and court costs. He is represented by Craig J. Jensen and Elizabeth A. Parker of MeyerJensen PC of Alton.
