Madison County motorist blames another driver for car collision

EDWARDSVILLE – A Madison County woman is suing an Alton motorist, alleging negligence for injuries she says she suffered during an automobile accident.

Shyann Kopsie filed the suit Jan. 13 in Madison County Circuit Court against Mary Cordes of Alton, alleging negligence.

On Oct. 29, 2014, the suit says, Kopsie was driving a vehicle south near the intersection of Humbert and Union School roads in Madison County, and, at the same time, Cordes was driving a vehicle north at the same intersection.

The suit states Cordes' negligence led her to operate her vehicle faster than the posted speed limit, operate it at a speed that was imprudent for the driving conditions and fail to maintain a proper lookout. As a result, the lawsuit states, Cordes' vehicle collided with the Kposie's vehicle.

The plaintiff alleges she has suffered injuries, large medical expenses, loss of income and loss of a normal life. She expects those to continue into the future.

Kopsie seeks a judgment of at least $50,000, plus court costs and other relief the court may deem appropriate. She is represented by attorney David W. Dugan of David W. Dugan PC of East Alton.
