An Illinois woman is suing a physician and nurse practitioner alleging they failed to properly diagnose her infant son's hydrocephalus.
Shabria Johnson, as mother of Kambrin E. Wade, filed the suit on Dec. 28 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Dr. David C. Norman and Emily M. Hollenkamp.
From July 20, 2013 to Nov. 19, 2013, the defendants provided medical services to the infant. According to the suit, both medical professionals failed to note the abnormal head circumference of the infant and failed to refer him for a consultation with a neurosurgeon. As a result, Johnson alleges she did not learn of her son's hydrocephalus, which as secondary to Dandy-Walker syndrome, until she took him to a neurosurgeon in April 2014.
As a result, the suit alleges the infant suffered brain injury, causing pain and suffering to his entire body, disfigurement, and loss of enjoyment of a normal life. The plaintiff alleges that she and the infant's father face large medical bills and caretaking expenses, and loss of ability to be gainfully employed while caring for their son.
Johnson seeks at least $50,000 from each defendant as well as court costs. She is represented by Joseph A. Bartholomew of Cook, Ysursa, Bartholomew, Brauer & Shevlin Ltd. of Belleville.
