Passenger sues driver following crash into embankment

A Madison County man is suing an East Alton motorist, alleging negligence after the plaintiff says he was injured in an automobile driven by the defendant.

Talon Pile filed the lawsuit Dec. 30 in Madison County Circuit Court against William E. Mathis III of East Alton, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, on Aug. 18, 2013, Mathis was driving his father's car on Woodburn Road in Madison County when he failed to stop at a stop sign and struck an embankment. As a result, the suit says, the defendant was ticketed by Illinois State Police for disregarding a stop sign and exceeding a safe speed for the conditions.

Pile, a passenger in Mathis' car, alleges he suffered harm to his mental and physical health, medical expenses, disfigurement and permanent injuries.

Pile seeks at least $50,000, plus court costs, attorney fees and other relief the court deems appropriate. He is represented by attorney Bill T. Walker of Granite City.
