Man sues East St. Louis church after fall from ladder

A St. Clair County man is suing an East St. Louis church after he says he was injured when he fell off a ladder.

William Lee filed a lawsuit Dec. 15 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Mount Paran Missionary Baptist Church in East St. Louis and Werner Company, alleging negligence and carelessness.

On Dec. 21, 2013, the complaint states, Lee was on church premises doing volunteer work and using the provided ladder manufactured by Werner. The suit says while the plaintiff was on the ladder and being handed something from the attic, the ladder came out from underneath him, causing him to suffer severe injuries, specifically to his right shoulder.

The lawsuit states Lee has incurred medical expenses of $60,000 and, likely, more in the future. The plaintiff alleges he sustained a loss of mobility, pain and suffering, mental anguish, loss of wages and earning capacity, and loss of the joys and pleasures of life.

Lee seeks at least $50,000 in damages, plus court costs and other relief the court deems appropriate from both defendants. He is represented by attorney Julia M. Kerr of Brown & Crouppen PC in St. Louis.
