Mother blames motorist for crash that injured her and son

BELLEVILLE – A Randolph County woman, individually and as next friend of her minor child, is suing a motorist, alleging injuries they suffered from an automobile accident.

Cassandra D. Helmers, individually and as natural mother, guardian and next friend of Dyson Helmers, filed a lawsuit Dec. 4 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Christopher W. Gabrovic, alleging negligence and carelessness.

According to the complaint, on Dec. 11, 2013, Helmers was driving south on South Illinois Street in Belleville. As she was driving, the suit says, Gabrovic's vehicle struck the rear of Helmers' vehicle, injuring both plaintiffs.

The accident, the lawsuit says, was due to the negligence and carelessness of the defendant, who was operating the vehicle in a reckless manner, at an illegal rate of speed and in disregard of the rules of the road and laws of Illinois.

Cassandra Helmers seeks for herself and her minor child at least $50,000 and other relief the court deems appropriate. She is represented by attorney Jordan D. Gremmels of Fisher, Kerkhover, Coffey & Gremmels Law Office in Chester.
