Tenant sues landlord over alleged slip and fall on ice

A tenant of a Belleville apartment complex is suing her landlord for injuries she claims she sustained when she allegedly slipped on an unnatural accumulation of ice.

Tara Lewis filed a lawsuit on Oct. 19 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against her landlord, Robert MacDonald, for negligently maintaining the area surrounding the plaintiff's apartment.

According to the complaint, Lewis alleges that on Jan. 26, 2014, she slipped and fell on an unnatural accumulation of ice diverted by a down spout. The plaintiff alleges the defendant knew about the icey conditions and did nothing to make it safe.

Lewis is seeking damages in excess of $50,000.

She is represented by Matthew Young of Kuehn, Beasley, and Young of Belleville.
