St. Clair County woman files breach of contract suit against roofing company

A St. Clair County woman claims Johnson's Roofing failed to perform any work or obtain a permit after she paid the company more than $23,000.

Cherry Y. Bell filed a lawsuit on Aug. 5 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Johnson’s Roofing, specifically Derrick Johnson, citing negligence.

According to the complaint, Bell signed a contract with Johnson’s Roofing – located in Madison County– and provided $23,795 for executing a job in which a permit is required. As of the date of the lawsuit, Johnson’s Roofing has failed to obtain a permit and has yet to execute any work.

Bell is seeking damages in excess of $50,000, plus a refund of the $23,795 in addition to reasonable attorney fees and costs of this suit for Johnson’s Roofing’s negligence to not follow through the contract, the claim states.

She is representing herself pro se.
