A monkey’s owner blamed for an attack on a minor boy at a Godfrey park has denied allegations in the Madison County lawsuit and demanded a trial by jury.
Defendant Kendra Hougland, also known as Kendra Daniels, filed her answer through attorney Paul K. Travous of St. Louis on Oct. 18 denying the allegations.
She also requested interrogatories and production from the plaintiff on Oct. 18.
According to the complaint, Jacob Calvert claims his son, Ayden Calvert, was attacked and bitten by a Java Macaque Monkey named Nina at Godfrey Glazebrook Park in Godfrey on June 2.
The suit was filed under a dog bite statute, which holds that an animal’s owner is responsible for a victim’s medical expenses.
The plaintiff seeks an unknown judgment of more than $50,000.
Madison County Circuit Judge Dennis Ruth is presiding over the case.
Steven W. Selby of Smith, Mendenhall and Selby in Alton represents the plaintiff.
