Gymnastics trainer granted default judgment by LeChien in trampoline injury

A gymnastics trainer has been granted default judgment in her case against a Belleville gymnastics center after she fell through an opening of a trampoline.

Tina M. Alexander filed the lawsuit on July 15 against Hulliung Gymnastics, doing business as World Class Gymnastics Center, and Family Sportsplex, Inc. after she allegedly injured herself while working.

Alexander claims she was hired by the defendant as an instructor, allowing her to assist students on the trampoline. On March 22, Alexander alleges her left leg fell through an opening on the edge of the trampoline because there was no protective padding covering the perimeter of the trampoline, which would have prevented someone from falling through it, the complaint states.

Alexander filed a motion for default judgment because the defendants had not responded with an answer or an entry of appearance in a timely manner.

St. Clair County Circuit Judge Robert LeChien granted her motion on Sept. 11, stating she was not provided with workers' compensation coverage.

Alexander alleges her foot and leg were injured. She accuses the gymnastics center and the owners of the building of negligence. She seeks a judgment of more than $100,000.

LeChien has scheduled a mandatory status conference on Oct. 15 at 9:30 a.m.

Bernard J. Ysura of Belleville represents Alexander.

An attorney for the defendants has not been identified.
