Grafton woman says driver 'violently' rear-ended vehicle

A Grafton woman claims she sustained severe injuries after a driver “violently” rear-ended the vehicle in which she was riding as a passenger.

Sandra L. Schulte filed a lawsuit Aug. 20 in Madison County Circuit Court against Marilyn C. Fisher.

In her complaint, Schulte alleges she was riding in the backseat of a 2006 Chevrolet Trail Blazer Amanda L. Wallace was driving east in the left lane of West Broadway in Alton on Aug. 2, 2012, at about 2:40 p.m. Wallace had stopped for traffic when Fisher, who was driving a 2012 Lincoln MKZ behind Wallace, struck the rear of her vehicle, according to the complaint.

In addition to her injuries, Schulte suffered disability and disfigurement, experienced great physical pain and mental anguish and incurred medical costs because of the collision, the suit states.

She blames Fisher for causing the collision, saying she negligently failed to reduce her speed to avoid a collision, failed to keep her vehicle under proper control, failed to keep a proper lookout, followed Wallace’s vehicle too closely and drove too fast, among other negligent acts.

In her complaint, Schulte is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

Stephen C. Buser of the Law Office of Stephen C. Buser in Columbia will be representing her.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 13-L-1403.
