Highway 161 accident blamed on inattentive driver

A woman has filed suit against the driver who she claims struck her vehicle when she attempted to make a left-hand turn in front of it.

Beverly Griffin claims she was driving west on Highway 161 in Belleville on Aug. 4, 2011, when defendant Pansy Polakiewicz, who was driving east on the same road, tried to make a left turn and struck her vehicle.

Because of the collision, Griffin suffered injuries to her right shoulder, neck and back; experienced pain and suffering; and incurred medical costs, according to the complaint filed July 18 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

Polakiewicz negligently drove too fast, failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to warn of her impending approach and collided with Griffin’s vehicle, the suit states.

In her complaint, Griffin is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

She will be represented by Andrew G. Toennies of Lashly and Baer in St. Louis.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 13-L-372.
