A man claims he was flown to the hospital for emergency surgery on his thigh following a collision.
Jack Hauskins filed a lawsuit May 16 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Cynthia Grapperhaus and Children’s Home and Aid Society of Illinois.
In his complaint, Hauskins alleges he was driving west on College Avenue and approaching its intersection with Fourth Street in Greenville on Aug. 27 at about 2:15 p.m. when Grapperhaus, who was driving north on Fourth Street, failed to stop at a stop sign and struck Hauskins’s vehicle.
Because of the collision, Hauskins suffered a compressed fracture in his back and fractures to his femur, tibia and fibula, the suit states. He also suffered great pain and mental anguish, endured disability, lost his normal life, lost wages and incurred property damages, the complaint says.
Following the collision, Hauskins was transported from Bond County to St. Louis County where doctors performed an emergency surgery at Barnes Jewish Hospital. He endured a second surgery one month later and was forced to spend 14 days in rehabilitation at Anderson Hospital in Madison County, according to the complaint.
Hauskins blames Grapperhaus for causing the collision, saying she negligently failed to stop at a stop sign, failed to yield the right-of-way, failed to keep a proper lookout, drove too fast, failed to reduce her speed to avoid a collision, failed to yield the right-of-way and drove too fast.
Hauskins also names Children’s Home and Aid Society of Illinois as a defendant, saying Grapperhaus was working for the society and was traveling from one appointment to the next when she got into the collision.
In his complaint, Hauskins is seeking a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs.
Michael P. Glisson of Williamson, Webster, Falb and Glisson in Alton and Joseph E. Hoefert of Alton will be representing him.
St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 13-L-257.
