More than 100 new lawyers will be admitted to practice in Illinois today at a ceremony in Collinsville.
The Collinsville ceremony is one of five set to take place today throughout the state, where a total of 668 men and women will raise their right hands to be sworn in as Illinois attorneys, according to a news release from the Illinois Supreme Court.
These new lawyers bring the state’s roster of licensed attorneys up to about 91,500.
Justice Lloyd Karmeier will administer the oath today to 118 new lawyers at the Fifth District ceremony at the Gateway Convention Center.
The Collinsville ceremony will feature Illinois State Bar Association President John Thies, a partner at Webber & Thies in Champaign, as the opening speaker. Christian County Judge Ronald Spears of the Fourth Judicial Circuit is also scheduled to speak.
Edwardsville attorney Glenn E. Bradford is set to make the motion to admit the class and John P. Long, an attorney at Belsheim & Bruckert in O’Fallon, will give congratulatory remarks, according to Supreme Court.
In addition, Madison County Circuit Judge Kyle Napp and St. Clair County Circuit Judge Michael N. Cook will attend the ceremony as Supreme Court guests, along with Lawrence County Circuit Judge Robert Hopkins from the Second Judicial Circuit.
The largest group of new lawyers – 467 – will be admitted in the First District ceremony in Chicago. Justice Charles Freeman will preside over this ceremony and Justices Anne Burke and Mary Jane Theis will participate in it.
Justice Robert Thomas will administer the oath to new lawyers at the Second District ceremony in Elgin; Chief Justice Thomas Kilbride will preside over the Third District ceremony in Ottawa and Justice Rita Garman will swear-in new lawyers at the Fourth District ceremony in Springfield.
