Pedestrian claims ESL patrol car struck him while crossing street

A St. Clair County man says he was hit by an East St. Louis Police patrol car while he was walking across the street.

Raymond Wilbourn filed a lawsuit April 22 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against East St. Louis Police Department and Lester Anderson, individually and in his official capacity as a police officer for the East St. Louis Police Department.

Wilbourn says he was walking across North 25th Street in East St. Louis in April 2012 when Officer Anderson, driving north on North 25th Street, hit him with his patrol car. Wilbourn claims Officer Anderson was speeding at the time of the crash. He accuses the police officer and the department of negligence.

Wilbourn asks for more than $50,000 in damages for medical bills, loss of income and court fees.

Attorney Matthew P. Young, of Belleville's Kuehn Law Firm, represents Wilbourn.
