Neck and back injuries claimed in Route 158 rear-end accident

A woman has filed suit against the driver who she claims rear-ended her vehicle while she was stopped at a red light.

Beverly J. Pulcher claims she was driving north on Illinois Highway 158 at its intersection with Illinois Route 13 in St. Clair County on Aug. 30 when she stopped for a red light. Suddenly, defendant Lee Alan Westbrook rear-ended her vehicle, according to the complaint filed Feb. 14 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

Because of the collision, Pulcher suffered severe and permanent injuries to her back and neck, was prevented from attending to her normal duties and incurred medical costs, the suit states. She also lost wages, the complaint says.

Pulcher blames Westbrook for causing the collision, saying he negligently drove too fast, failed to reduce his speed to avoid a collision, failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to apply his brakes to avoid a collision and failed to take other evasive measures to avoid a collision.

In her complaint, Pulcher is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

Bernard J. Ysursa of Cook, Ysursa, Bartholomew, Brauer and Shevlin in Belleville will be representing her.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 13-L-82.
