An Alton man is accused of crashing into another car after failing to yield at a stop sign.
Tessie Moore filed a lawsuit Jan. 23 in Madison County Circuit Court against Ralph Collins Jr.
According to the complaint, Moore was a passenger in a 2003 Cadillac heading north on Brown Street in Alton in July 2011. At the same time, Moore says, Collins was driving his 1996 Chevrolet west on Pearl Street. At the intersection of Brown and Pearl, Moore claims her car arrived at the stop sign first and, therefore, had the right of way to proceed through the intersection after stopping.
However, Collins allegedly tried to cross the intersection too soon and crashed into the car Moore was riding in. She says she was hurt in the crash and accuses Collins of negligence. Moore asks for more than $50,000 in damages for medical bills and court costs.
