Alorton accident is subject of suit

A man and woman claim they sustained severe and permanent injuries after a driver struck their vehicle.

Dorothy Harris and Christopher Harrison filed a lawsuit Nov 21 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Ahmad Farah and Carmelo Torres.

In their complaint, Harris and Harrison allege Dorothy Harris drove a 2002 Nissan Altima west on Old Missouri Avenue in Alorton on Nov. 26, 2010, when Farah, who was driving a 1998 Ford Coupe belonging to Torres, collided with the Altima.

In addition to their injuries, Harris and Harrison suffered great pain and anguish, incurred medical costs, lost wages and experienced an impaired earning capacity, according to the complaint.

Harris and Harrison blame Farah for causing the collision, saying he negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to reduce his speed to avoid a collision, failed to keep his vehicle under proper control, failed to follow traffic devices and failed to drive at a reasonable speed.

They also name Torres as a defendant, saying he negligently lent his vehicle to Farah, despite knowledge of his past criminal driving record.

In their complaint, Harris and Harrison seek a judgment of more than $300,000, plus costs.

Benjamin T. Stephens of Johnston Law Offices in Edwardsville will be representing them.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 12-L-627.
