Centrue Bank worker says she was fired in retaliation for filing work comp claim

An O'Fallon woman says she was fired from her job at a Fairview Heights bank after she filed a workers' compensation claim.

Mary Jane Raymond filed a lawsuit Nov. 9 against Centrue Bank in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

According to the complaint, Raymond began working for Centrue Bank in March 2005 and received excellent performance evaluations each year. Raymond says in November 2011, while on the job, she was walking on a sidewalk with the bank's chief financial officer in Streator when she tripped over an uneven section of the cement.

Raymond claims she was hurt in the fall and filed for workers' compensation benefits in March of this year. Raymond alleges she was fired three months later in retaliation for filing the claim.

Centrue Bank is accused of wrongful termination and is asked to pay more than $50,000 in damages, including loss of income and benefits and costs of the lawsuit.

Raymond is represented by attorney Edward J. Szewczyk of Granite City. They ask for a jury trial.
