Man injured in auto accident as minor sues two drivers over injuries

A man claims he incurred more than $50,000 worth of medical costs after he was involved in an accident more than three years ago.

Matthew A.H. Slaughter claims he was a minor child who was riding in a vehicle defendant Mark A. Dvorchak was driving north on Second Street at its intersection with Eula Street in Wood River on May 21, 2009, when defendant Lisa Little, who was driving west on Eula Street, failed to yield the right-of-way and struck Dvorchak’s vehicle.

Because of the collision, Slaughter sustained serious and permanent injuries, experienced pain and suffering and incurred medical costs, according to the complaint filed Nov. 19 in Madison County Circuit Court.

Slaughter blames Little for causing the collision, saying she negligently drove in a careless manner, drove too fast, disregarded traffic signals, failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to keep her vehicle under proper control and failed to keep the steering of her vehicle in proper order, among other negligent acts.

He also names Dvorchak as a defendant, saying he negligently drove in an improper manner, drove too fast, disregarded traffic signals, failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to keep his vehicle under proper control, failed to keep the steering of his vehicle in proper order, failed to keep his brakes in the correct working condition and failed to brake in time to avoid striking another vehicle.

In his two-count complaint, Slaughter is seeking a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs.

Timothy F. Campbell of Campbell and McGrady in Godfrey will be representing him.
