As of about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, it was still unclear who would take home the win in the Fifth District Appellate Court race.
Democrat Judy Cates beat her Republican opponent, St. Clair County Circuit Judge Stephen McGlynn, in Madison and St. Clair counties.
Those counties, however, are only two of the 37 counties that make up the Fifth District.
Madison County election results show that with all 225 precincts reporting, Cates received 63,215 votes compared to the 52, 536 votes McGlynn received.
In St. Clair County, Cates received 54,427 votes, compared to the 46,173 votes McGlynn received, according to final results from the clerk's office.
Emails sent to both candidates' campaign managers late Tuesday night were not immediately returned.
