Anderson Hospital named in medical malpractice complaint

An Edwardsville woman claims doctors failed to properly monitor her recently deceased husband while performing a knee replacement surgery on him.

Darlene Kombrink claims her husband, Melvin Kombrink, underwent a knee replacement surgery on Sept. 17, 2010, at defendant Anderson Hospital. During the surgery, nurses were instructed to place a continuous passive motion machine on Melvin Kombrink, according to the complaint filed Sept. 14 in Madison County Circuit Court.

However, the staff at Anderson Hospital negligently failed to properly install the machine, failed to monitor the use of the machine and failed to monitor the neurological status of Melvin Kombrink during the operation, the suit states.

Because of the staff's actions at the hospital, Melvin Kombrink incurred medical costs, suffered disfigurement and disability and lost his normal life, the complaint says.

Darlene Kombrink is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

James R. Williams of the Law Offices of Williams, Caponi and Foley in Belleville will be representing her.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 12-L-1482.
