Another suit against Crown Food Mart filed over fatal shooting

A woman claims her recently deceased husband was shot and killed outside an East St. Louis convenience store.

Trebla Rozier-Moore filed a lawsuit July 7 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Samieh, Crown Food, Kings Food Market, Crown Mart, Mike Saiid and Eddie Hamid.

In her complaint, Rozier-Moore claims her husband, Demario Moore, was visiting the defendants' premises at 2914 State St. in East St. Louis on Aug. 29, 2010, when he was confronted by several individuals who were loitering outside the store.

"During the confrontation, words were exchanged, and, thereafter, one of the loiterers pulled out a gun and shot decedent, causing his death," the suit states.

Another suit was filed against Crown Food Mart on July 17 by Avery A. Murray of Fairview Heights who says he was shot several times while shopping there in July 2010.

Rozier-Moore claims she lost her husband's financial support, companionship, society, love and affection, according to the complaint.

Rozier-Moore blames the defendants for contributing to her husband's death, saying they negligently failed to provide an adequately trained guard force outside their store, failed to alert customers to dangers and failed to provide adequate supervision of the activities taking place on their premises, among other negligent acts.

In her complaint, Rozier-Moore is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus pre-judgment interest and costs.

Joseph M. Taylor of Taylor and Taylor in St. Louis will be representing her.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 12-L-347.
