A woman who blamed her insurance agent for not securing a policy for her Jaguar has settled a lawsuit for $6,000.

Madison County Circuit Judge David Hylla on July 25 dismissed Reflaye Y. Williams' lawsuit against Tara Burgess, noting in an earlier order that the parties appeared for mediation and reached the settlement.

Each party was ordered by Hylla to bear its own costs.

Williams had claimed she should have had an insurance policy in effect for her 2004 Jaguar on July 1, 2009 when she was in an accident.

She had met with Burgess days before her accident to obtain coverage.

But, Burgess claimed Williams' insurance was not in effect on the date of the accident.

Williams originally sought a judgment of more than $50,000 in her 2011 lawsuit.

She was represented by attorney John Bitzer of Bitzer Law Firm in Collinsville.

Burgess was represented by Dean Athans of Wilson, Elser, Moskowitz, Edelman and Dicker of Chicago.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 11-L-640.
