A woman claims she experienced great pain and mental anguish after a driver struck her vehicle.
Brianna P. Markel filed a lawsuit July 3 in Madison County Circuit Court against Monica L. Burton.
In her complaint, Markel alleges she was turning left from Airline Drive onto lllinois Route 111 in Bethalto on Feb. 25, 2011, when Burton, who was driving at the same intersection, struck her vehicle.
In addition to her pain and mental anguish, Markel lost wages, incurred medical costs and endured an impaired earning capacity, according to the complaint.
Markel blames Burton for causing the collision, saying she negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, drove in such a manner that she struck Markel's vehicle, failed to properly apply her brakes, failed to reduce her speed to avoid a collision and failed to yield to Markel's vehicle.
In her complaint, Markel seeks a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just.
