Two St. Clair County men claim they sustained injuries to their spines, necks and backs after a driver rear-ended a vehicle in which they were riding.

Marcus L. Howliet and Mark A. Howliet filed a lawsuit June 5 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Christina Gleadle.

In their complaint, the Howliets allege Marcus Howliet drove east on Illinois Route 15 near its intersection with Pocket Road on June 3, 2011, when he stopped at a traffic light. Suddenly, Gleadle, who drove in the same direction, smashed into the back of his vehicle, according to the complaint.

In addition to their injuries, the Howliets experienced pain and suffering, incurred medical costs, sustained disability and disfigurement and endured an impaired earning capacity, the suit states. They also lost their normal lives, the complaint says.

The Howliets blame Gleadle for causing the collision, saying she negligently failed to reduce her speed to avoid a collision, failed to obey a traffic control device, followed their vehicle too closely, drove without regard for the safety of others, failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to yield the right-of-way and failed to maintain control of her vehicle.

In their complaint, the Howliets seek a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs.

Fritz G. Faerber, Christine E. Anderson and Lane Matthews of Faerber and Anderson in St. Louis will be representing them.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 12-L-303.
