Maryville accident causes injuries; Injured driver seeks $50K in damages

A Collinsville man is being asked to pay more than $50,000 for allegedly turning into another car.

Cathy A. Voegele filed a lawsuit against Joseph C. McGinnis on May 3 in Madison County Circuit Court.

The alleged crash happened in September 2011, according to the complaint. Voegele says she was driving west on Route 162 and stopped at a traffic light at the intersection with Route 159. When the light turned green, the driver says she began to move into the intersection and was hit by McGinnis who was allegedly attempting to turn.

Voegele says the crash caused her to receive serious and permanent injuries. She contends McGinnis is liable for those inuries because he allegedly failied to yield the right of way, failed to keep a proper lookout and failled to keep his vehicle under proper control. Voegele is asking for 50,000 for past and future suffering, disability, loss of normal life, medical expenses and subsantial loss of income.

Attorney James E. Gorman of Edwardsville is representing Voegele.
