Bob Evans customer claims sidewalk crumbled beneath his feet

A man is suing a Collinsville restaurant, claiming a walkway outside the dining area crumbled and caused him to fall.

Larry Medlin filed the lawsuit against Bob Evans Farms Inc. May 7 in Madison County Circuit Court.

Medlin says he was at the Bob Evans in Collinsville in 2011 when he slipped on a concrete walkway outside the restaurant. The concrete "crumbled beneath his feet" causing him to fall, according to the complaint. Medlin says he was hurt in the fall as he "attempted to brace for impact."

Medlin claims Bob Evans Farms should have known the walkway was dangerous and should have warned guests of the potential hazard. He says the the restaurant knew the walkway needed repairs, so it poured a new concrete right after Medlin's fall.

Medlin is asking to be paid more than $50,000 in damages plus court costs. Attorneys with the Maag Law Firm in Wood River are representing him.
