Semi driver causes accident on Highway 50 after running stop sign, suit says

A man claims he sustained back, chest, leg and head injuries after a driver failed to yield the right-of-way at an intersection.

Lonnie Ewing filed a lawsuit March 27 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Henry A. Gill and Transam Trucking.

In his complaint, Ewing claims he drove a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt east on Highway 50 near its intersection with Route 4 in Lebanon on Dec. 14 when Gill, who was driving a 2009 Kenworth semi-truck south on Route 4 for Transam, ran a stop sign and struck Ewing's vehicle.

In addition to his injuries, Ewing incurred medical costs, sustained great pain and mental anguish and missed numerous working days because of the collision, the suit states.

He blames Gill for causing the collision, saying Gill negligently failed to keep his vehicle under proper control, failed to keep a proper lookout, drove too fast, failed to reduce his speed to avoid a collision and ran a stop sign, among other negligent acts.

In his two-count complaint, Ewing is seeking a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs.

Gary A. Mack of the Law Offices of Gary A. Mack in Belleville will be representing him.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 12-L-157.
