Pile-up on Route 3 leads to personal injury suit

A Missouri woman has filed suit against the drivers who she claims caused a multi-vehicular collision.

Brittani M. Dixon filed a lawsuit March 29 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Paige T. Lane, Michael P. Lamping and Dennis Weaver.

In her complaint, Dixon alleges she drove her 2008 Pontiac G6 south on Illinois Route 3 near Eighth Street on April 17, 2010, when she encountered a collision that she was unable to avoid.

In front of Dixon, Lane had been driving a 2001 Saturn south on the same road when she got a flat tire, according to the complaint. Lane slowed down when Lamping rear-ended her vehicle, the suit states.

"Due to the collision mentioned above, plaintiff was unable to avoid the crash and rear-ended Michael P. Lamping," the suit states. "That at the aforesaid time and place, defendant, Dennis E. Weaver, rear-ended the vehicle in which Brittani M. Dixon was driving."

Because of the collision, Dixon sustained injuries to her neck, back and right foot; incurred medical costs; and was prevented from attending to her normal duties, the complaint says.

She blames the three defendants for causing the collision, saying Lane negligently drove with unsafe tires and drove an unsafe vehicle on the road; and Lamping and Weaver negligently failed to properly control his vehicle, drove too fast and failed to brake. In addition, Lamping allegedly drove while intoxicated, according to the complaint.

In her three-count complaint, Dixon is seeking a judgment of more than $150,000, plus costs.

Lanny Darr of Schrempf, Kelly, Napp and Darr in Alton will be representing her.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 12-L-161.
