A Madison County couple is accused of failing to make payments on a Wood River house they were in the process of buying.
Jerome Fletcher filed a lawsuit March 23 in Madison County Circuit Court against Gerald and Sandra Cunningham.
Fletcher says he agreed to sell the home on Prospect Street to the Cunninghams in exchange for a series of agreed-upon payments.
Fletcher says the couple signed a contract detailing the steps necessary to be given the deed to the home but have allegedly stopped making required payments on the property. He says the couple also failed to make insurance and tax payments as detailed in the purchase agreement.
The seller says a 30-day notice of intent to take possession of the property was served.
Fletcher is asking for ownership of the house to be returned to him. He is also asking the Cunninghams to pay an outstanding balance of $74,000 plus interest.
