A man is suing a Godfrey car dealership after allegedly slipping on a trail of ice in the parking lot.

Calvin Bristow filed the lawsuit against Smart Choice Auto Sales Inc. on March 28 in Madison County Circuit Court.

Bristow says the injury happened at Smart Choice Auto Sales on West Delmar Avenue in Godfrey in December 2010. He says he was walking across the parking lot of the dealership when he slipped on a long, thin patch of ice.

Bristow says the ice was caused by water that had leaked from a car wash shed and then froze. He contends Smart Choice Auto Sales was negligent for failing to monitor the parking lot to ensure it was safe for people to walk.

Bristow says he hurt his right ankle in the fall. He is asking to be awarded more than $50,000 for medical bills, pain and suffering and lost wages.

Attorney Samuel A. Mormino Jr. of Alton is representing Bristow.
