A Smithton man says he was fired from his position at a power plant after he was hurt on the job.
Duane Determan filed a lawsuit Jan. 18 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Brand Energy Services LLC.
According to the complaint, Determan was working at the Baldwin Power Plant in December 2011 when he was hurt. Within a month of filing a workers' compensation claim, Determan says he was fired.
Determan accuses Brand Energy Services of wrongful termination and violation of Illinois' Workers' Compensation Act. He asks for more than $100,000 in damages for loss of income and court costs.
