Conductor sues Illinois Central over thumb injuries

Schlichter

A man has filed suit against the railroad company where he claims he was working when he sustained injuries to his thumb, hand and wrist.

Dennis Goddard claims he was working as a conductor for defendant Illinois Central Railroad Company on May 10 when he sustained the injuries. Goddard does not specify how he received the injuries.

However, he does say that because of his injuries, he experienced pain and suffering, incurred medical costs and experienced psychological and emotional injuries, mental anguish and anxiety, according to the complaint filed Nov. 9 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

Goddard blames the railroad for causing his injuries, saying it failed to provide him with a safe place to work, failed to provide him with safe work conditions and failed to provide him with safe equipment, among other negligent acts.

In his complaint, Goddard is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

Jerome J. Schlichter and Joshua D. Margolis of Schlichter, Bogard and Denton in St. Louis will be representing him.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 11-L-630.
