O'Fallon doctor named in med mal complaint

The father of a minor boy claims an O'Fallon doctor failed to adequately treat and diagnose his ailing son.

Jeremy Dickerson filed a lawsuit Oct. 26 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Dr. Jane Barker.

In his complaint, Dickerson claims he took his minor child, Skyler Owen Dickerson, to Barker on Aug. 27, 2010, for unspecified reasons.

During the visit, Barker allegedly negligently failed to obtain a proper history of Skyler Dickerson's urine output, failed to follow up with a urinanalysis and failed to follow up in 12 to 24 hours with a diagnosis of bloody stool and constipation, according to the complaint.

As a result of Barker's follow-up procedures, Skyler Dickerson suffered renal damage and experienced pain, suffering, disability and disfigurement, the suit states. In addition, he lost his normal life while his father incurred medical and care-taking costs, the complaint says.

In his complaint, Jeremy Dickerson seeks a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

Joseph A. Bartholomew of Cook, Ysursa, Bartholomew, Brauer and Shevlin in Belleville and Tom R. Burcham III of Farmington will be representing him.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 11-L-605.
